The Poe Family Blog: March 2013

Well, February was a kind of hectic month for us. We ended up moving during the month. The need to move happened pretty quick. We had been living in Scott's grandma's house since we moved to Columbus, and we always had the intent to buy the house. Unfortunately, Scott's family needed to put it up on the market before we were at a place where we could buy. As a result I was on the hunt for a house for us to rent. I was lucky enough to find a nice 4 bedroom house that was within our price range (once I started working full time again). So we spent the first couple of weeks of February taking car loads of boxes over to the new house and unloading what we could. Then mid March we did the big move. It was not the best of days to move considering it snowed on and off.

While we have moved all of our stuff out of the old house, we still have some touch ups in terms of paint to do over there, and we make trips every other day to do laundry, since we still don't have a washer and dryer at the new house. We also haven't changed our address on most things, so we have to go over there to check the mail. It's been very sad to see the old house mostly empty (there's still some stuff in the basement). I think the hardest part of moving out of the old house for me was taking the decals off of Zoey's wall. Scott and I worked so hard to get her room ready before she was born. This was the first house Scott and I lived in as a married couple and our first home as a family, so it has been difficult to leave. I think it's been even harder for Scott since his grandparents built the house and lived in it for all of Scott's life. Needless to say, it's been an emotional process.

Despite the sadness we feel leaving our old house behind, we have been excited to move into our new place.

While we lost some storage space in the garage (cuz we are actually parking in the new garage) and the basement, overall we have more space, which makes me a happy person. We gained a bedroom, so we have a separate guest room and playroom. Zoey's room is also bigger, which has been nice for her. I am still trying to get everything organized and put together, but I have been able to get some rooms to a place I can call almost complete. I will post more rooms as I get them finished.

Zoey's room was pink when we moved in and for various reasons we decided not to paint it as we originally planned. So I had to throw out the jungle theme and instead went with a butterfly/dragonfly theme

Guest Bathroom

We have a guest bathroom upstairs, which currently almost never gets used. Zo doesn't use it yet and has been taking baths in our bathtub, so right now it just sits waiting for company.I decided since it will primarily be Zoey's bathroom I would decorate in monkeys. I found the wall hangings in a box when I was packing. I bought them for Zoey's nursery and then never used them. I also took some of the monkey decals from Zoey's room and placed them in the bathroom.

Kitchen

The kitchen was probably the first room to come together, and is one of my favorites because it is so open and has the island in it. I love that. I'm not sure why, but for some reason it has been easy for me to decorate. Unlike the rest of the house, I knew exactly what to hang and where.
