Spirit Song 2013

One of Scott and my favorite thing to do is to attend Christian music festivals with Zoey. We enjoy seeing some of our favorite RadioU bands live and we have gotten the chance to meet many of them, which is pretty cool. Neither of us are big on the speakers and what not that also come along with attending Christian festivals, but we still love going.

I think our all time favorite is Alive Festival, which was last weekend (Here is my post from last years Alive). Because of Scott's new job we weren't able to attend since the best way to experience it is to go camping and stay a few days. The other one we went to last year was Pointfest, which takes place at Cedar Point. We really enjoyed that last year, but there weren't any bands we liked playing this year, so we decided not to go. That left Spirit Song at King's Island. Spirit Song is three days, but we only went up for Saturday.

We debated back and forth whether we should go or not. The weather was supposed to be bad with rain and thunderstorms. We also found out the night before that one of the two bands we wanted to see, TFK, had to cancel. In the end we decided to go for it and I'm glad we did.

In addition to taking Zoey with us, we also took my nephew, Trey. It was nice that he was able to come with us and I think he had a good time (It's hard to tell with him sometimes. He's a 14 year old boy. They tend to play it cool).

The day started with a bit of stress. Zoey fell asleep in the car about 15 minutes before we got to King's Island and man was she unhappy about getting woke up and transferred to the stroller. She screamed the entire way from the parking lot to the park. Then I forgot to bring the credit card I purchased the tickets with, which was required to pick them up at will call, so I was on edge. Thankfully this didn't seem to be an issue, so we were able to get our tickets and go in. However, between Zoey and myself, things were a little tense and cranky.

We set out for Snoopy Planet and moods turned around quickly. We stood in line for the Kite Eating Tree ride,  but it wasn't moving at all and Zoey wasn't really sure about the line thing, so we decided to try something else.

That something else was the log ride. I used to love the log ride when I would go to Lagoon as a kid/teen, but I was a little bit worried about Zoey going on it since she's been anti water lately and hasn't wanted to take a bath or go swimming. Scott decided he would take her. It was a long line, but Scott said she did amazing. Meanwhile Trey and I entertained ourselves and had a good conversation.

Can you spot Scott and Zoey?

Zoey absolutely loved the log ride. I guess it was pretty rough and the boat hit into a lot of things on it's way up the track and each time Zoey just laughed. She didn't look too thrilled following the splash down at the end, but I think it was just the surprise because she was laughing right after and she came skipping down the exit of the ride with a huge smile on her face.

After having such a good time on the log ride, Zoey seemed to be up for standing in lines. The next ride we went on was Boo Blasters, which was actually kind of lame. It was an inside ride where you are in a cart that has laser guns mounted to it and you go around and shoot ghosts. I'm not sure if it would have been more fun if we would have had a cart where the guns worked better or if all four of us weren't crammed into one kart.

After that we decided to grab some lunch. This is where we me melted down a little. Scott and I don't communicate so well sometimes, which cause both of us to get annoyed at each other. It pretty much happens anytime we drive somewhere new, have to park somewhere crowded, or otherwise don't know where we are going or what we are doing. It happened while trying to decide where to eat, but didn't last long. Soon we had settled on a food court type of place indoors. Cheeseburger wasn't bad and we joked it was actually better than the one we had gotten a few nights before at BJ's Brewhouse. Zoey loved the fact that we let her eat fries. They had a little stage show that came on while we were eating and Zoey enjoyed the music.

Once lunch was done, we had time for a couple more rides. I rode Lucy's Seaplane with Zoey. There aren't any pictures because we got put on the inside of the ride. Zoey loved Snoopy's bus last year at Cedar Point and this was basically the same thing. However, after the log ride, this was boring to her. LOL!

We then headed back to the Kite Eating Tree, where once again Scott was the one riding with her while Trey and I looked on. At first she did not want to sit in the ride, but after a switch in seats (due to them trying to balance weight), she seemed to be happier. I couldn't really see her face once the ride started, but Scott said she was laughing like crazy. Meanwhile, he was trying to breath due to the fact that this ride was not meant to accommodate someone with shoulders and a chest like Scott's. LOL!

I love this little big guy :)

Once we got done there, we headed over to the amphitheater to wait for the concert to start. As I mentioned before, one of the bands we wanted to see ended up canceling, so we were only there to see one band, We Are Leo. Scott and I first saw them on Valentine's Day 2012 when we went to a concert featuring another of my favorite bands, Hyland. We liked We Are Leo as well, but really started to get into them at Alive last summer. They were Zoey's first concert and we got awesome video of her jamming to them. They are also really awesome guys, so we were looking forward to seeing them again.

Unfortunately, this is where I didn't like Spirit Song. It's in an amphitheater with assigned bleacher seating. This makes it really difficult when you have a tired toddler and a stroller. We had to close up the stroller because our seats were in the middle of the section and Scott had to sit with it in front of his legs. We liked Pointfest much better because it was in a parking lot, so you brought your own chairs and were basically able to spread out. Alive is awesome because since you are camping there, you can take a tired toddler back to the camp site for a nap. Instead, we had a tired toddler, who wanted to sit in her stroller but couldn't. Half way through We Are Leo's set, we took the stroller and Zoey and moved to the back of the amphitheater where there was a deck type thing so Zoey could sit in the stroller. Since she was so tired, we also didn't stick around to talk to the band.

Here is a We Are Leo video for you to enjoy

As we headed out of the park, I tried to get a picture of Zoey and myself. I am normally the one taking the pictures, so I rarely am in them and by the time I do remember to get one of the two of us it is usually too late to get a good one. That was the case yesterday as well. She was just way too tired to cooperate.

It was a long, but fun day. We were all exhausted. Some of us couldn't help but fall asleep on the ride home.

MDBD - Butterfinger Blondies

Last week for MDBD we made Butterfinger Blondies, which we found at Six Sister's Stuff

Butterfinger Blondies

Here are all our ingredients
1 cup butter
1 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp coarse sea salt
2 cups coarsely chopped Butterfinger Bars (approx 16 “Fun Size” bars)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°
Cream butter and sugars in mixing bowl.
Add the vanilla and eggs and mix until incorporated.
On low add your dry ingredients (flour, salt and baking soda) until just combined.
Stir in your chopped Butterfinger.
Spread in a 9×13 baking dish and bake for 25 minutes until center is JUST set. (They will seem like they aren't done, but they are)
Remove from oven and cool completely.

Enjoying a Butterfinger

This recipe also called for a Butterfinger Butter Cream Icing; however all I could taste was butter so we decided not to put it on the blondies. If you would like to give it a try, the recipe can be found on the original source page, which is linked at the top if this post.

This is what the blondies are supposed to look like with the frosting and all
Here is how mine turned out, with a few missing. LOL!

5= Not Bad, but Not Great

Scott- 5 ("Not bad but bland")
Kristin - 5 (They were ok, but there wasn't much butterfinger flavor. I've made better blondies)

Father's Day

Father's Day was somewhat uneventful this year. We had just gotten back from our trip to Kentucky and everyone was kind of pooped. So we basically stayed home all day. This was the first Father's Day that Scott wasn't at work for, so that was nice for him.

I felt bad because due to issues with my job we had some financial constraints and I wasn't really able to get him anything. However, I did have Zoey make him a special art piece.

I woke up and took care of Zoey, which allowed Scott to sleep in. Zoey and I made whole wheat waffles from scratch, which turned out really good.

Kentucky Train Ride

Last weekend was our neighbor, Robbie's, birthday party, so we packed into the car and drove to Lexington, Kentucky for the day. We left Columbus early in order to stop at the outlets that are in between here and Cincinnati to pick up some new shoes for Scott. This was actually his idea because his shoes were falling apart. I'm pretty sure his toe was actually coming out the side. You know it has to be pretty bad if he's willing to go shopping.

Walking around the outlets with Daddy
Hmmm, I wonder what's in the bag
We then hoped back in the car. Overall it was a 5 hour trip (including shopping time). By the time we got there, Zoey was diffidently ready to be out of the car. We spent a little time saying hello to family, eating some pizza, and relaxing.

We then hopped on the train for a ride. I think it was about 90 minutes long including the stop part way through. Zoey seemed pretty excited at first, but soon her 2 year old attention span caught up with her and she was a handful to wrangle. Half way through the train stopped and we were able to get off and stretch our legs a little. We also were able to get up on the front of the train for a picture. We then hopped back on and headed back to the train museum. Zo was super tired by this point.

Someone was tired

Since it was almost 8:00 by the time we got back to the train museum, we left right away. Scott didn't want to spend Father's Day in the car, so we decided to do the trip all on Saturday. Made it back to the house around 11:30. Zoey was super good in the car and immediately went to sleep.

We didn't get to stay for cake and the opening of presents, but here is a picture of Robbie's cake/cupcakes.
