Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment. I was 11 weeks 3 days. I was kind of nervous about what to except because I didn't know if I would be able to hear the heartbeat on the Doppler at 11 weeks, so I did one of the stupidest things a pregnant woman can do, I did a Google search. The first website I came to was a woman who had not had any signs of miscarriage, but went in at 11 weeks and they couldn't hear the heartbeat or see it on an ultrasound. She ended up having to have a DNC. That scared the crap out of me because I was banking on the idea that if I hadn't experienced any problems that meant everything was okay. That anxiety was heightened by the fact that Scott couldn't go to the appointment with me because he had to work. I just knew that if something was wrong or course I would find out about it when I was all by myself. That 3 hours drive to Columbus sucked because once I start worrying about something it is really hard for me to stop. Anyhow, I feel like my anxiety was actually helpful to me because it made me speak up when otherwise I probably wouldn't have.
At the appointment, the nurse came in and took my blood pressure and asked me how I was feeling. She left and the doctor came in, asked me how I was feeling, and then said "okay come back in four weeks". I must have had a strange look on my face because she then said, "Well, we heard the fetal heartbeat, so everything is okay." I asked, "How did you do that?" She then realized that the nurse had not done that small detail. She left the room and I could hear her scolding the nurse. Personally, I think it's kind of sad that the doctor just assumed that we had heard the heart beat. I think if I was a doctor I would want to know what the bpm was or something. It all turned out though because since I was only 11 weeks instead of 12 (I guess I started my care a week too early, which has thrown my appointments off a week from where they typically are)I got to have an extra ultrasound and got to see Monkey again. We weren't supposed to have another ultrasound until 20 weeks, so this was a nice bonus. I saw my little Monkey and saw the heartbeat, which was a huge anxiety relief.
After my appointment, I decided to take advantage of the sunshine and did a little shopping. I went to Target with the intent of getting some of the last wine needed for the wedding. I have been buying it 6 bottles at a time and am used to the weird looks I get from the cashiers, but it was multiplied this time by the fact that I was buying 6 bottles of wine and some maternity clothes. LOL! I later met up with my best friend, Amanda, and we did some maternity shopping. That was a wonderful experience. It's really cool to be pregnant at the same time as your best friend. What a great experience to share!!! It was also neat cuz I got to put on a baby bump pillow that made me look 7 months pregnant. It was neat to get an idea of what I will look like. I made Amanda come into the dressing room with me and take a picture. LOL! Overall, it was a really good day!!!
On a side note, the other night Scott and I made a trip to Boardman to go to Best Buy just to buy Duck Tales on DVD. We have decided that Monkey will be raised on the classics, so we got Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers, and Darkwing Duck. LOL!!!
