Red, White, & Boom

Every year in Columbus they do a big 4th of July celebration downtown called Red, White, and Boom. You basically spend the day camped out on the grass and they have vendor booths, music, and what not, and then at 10:00 they have an awesome firework display. We went last year with some of Scott's family and even though I was pregnant and the heat bothered me, we had a good time. This year Scott had to work on the day of Red, White, and Boom but I decide to take Zoey down to enjoy the day with Scott's family.

It was miserably hot!!! I can't even describe how hot it was. I tried my hardest to keep Zoey shaded.
We basically spent the day playing games and talking.
Once 10:00 hit, Zoey got her first fireworks experience, and she LOVED it!!! She was so amazed and wasn't the least bit afraid.
Hopefully Red, White, and Boom becomes a family tradition for us.

What Zoey is Reading Updated

I still haven't remedied the fact that we haven't bought any new books for nap time. I just can't seem to find anything that I feel looks good.

CURRENTLY READING: Alcatraz and the Scrivener's Bones

The Evil Librarians are still up to their antics and it's up to Alcatraz Smedry to put a stop to it! This second book will take Alcatraz and company on an exploration of the Library of Alexandria, which -- despite Librarian rumors -- was never destroyed. It is a mysterious place and everyone knows that it holds dark secrets. Can Alcatraz, with his talent for breaking things, break into this secret world? Or will the Evil Librarians once again prevail?

So, I wasn't a huge fan of the first Alcatraz book. I didn't hate it by any means, but I just didn't find the humor in it like Scott does. I diffidently think this second book is better. I even laughed out loud once. I am still holding off final judgement until we actually finish the book, but it looks like Brandon Sanderson is getting into his grove with the Alcatraz series and I hope they just continue to improve.

JUST FINISHED: Percy Jackson & the Olympians - The Lightning Thief

The gods of Olympus are alive in the 21st Century. They still fall in love with mortals and have children who might become great heroes, but most of these children meet horrible fates at the hands of monsters by the age of twelve. Only a few learn the truth of their identity and make it to Half Blood Hill, a Long Island summer camp dedicated to training young demigods. Such is the revelation that launches young Percy Jackson on a quest to help his real father, Poseidon, avert a war among the gods. With the help of Grover the satyr and Annabeth the daughter of Athena, Percy must journey across the United States to catch a thief who has stolen the original weapon of mass destruction - Zeus’ master bolt. Along the way, they face a host of mythological enemies determined to stop them. Most of all, Percy must come to terms with a father he has never known, and an Oracle that has warned him of betrayal by a friend.

I really wish I hadn't of watched the movie before reading the book because they are very different, and it kind of threw me off. Despite that fact, I really enjoyed reading this book and can't wait until we start book two. I am sure I will enjoy it even more since I won't have a movie version to screw things up.

Father's Day

So, I'm kind of behind of blogging. Oops!!!

Anyhow, this was Scott's first Father's Day. Scott had to work, so we didn't really get to do anything special.

Zoey gave him his presents the night before, which were some business cards for his blog, the second book in the Alcatraz series, and a photo book about all the reasons she loves him. The photo book brought tears to his eyes, which means Zoey and I did good :)

Zoey and her daddy did get to spend some quality time together before Scott had to go to work.

It's a Bear Picnic

On June 18th, we traveled to Lexington for Scott's nephew's 1st birthday party. I can't believe Robbie is already a year old. Boy how time flies.

Sadly, we weren't able to spend very much time there because Scott had to work the next day, so we just went down for the day. Zoey did amazing in the car and it's a 3 hour drive each way.

Before the actual party started we spent some one on one time with Robbie and Neko. Zoey seemed to enjoy playing with her cousins and seeing Aunt Angela.

Before the party we also spent some time out to eat with Grammie. Zoey was in a very good mood and making us laugh.

The theme of Robbie's party was a Bear Picnic and once again Angela did a great job with the food and decorations.

The Cake

The Smash Cake and Favors

The Food (Scott made the sandwiches)

I thought these little cheese bears were adorable

Once the party started, we spent sometime outside playing on Neko and Robbie's swing set. Zoey wasn't too impressed with swinging, but she has spent a lot of time in her baby swing so it was nothing new to her. LOL!
We were luckily able to stay long enough that we got to see Robbie get his smash cake. It was pretty funny because he didn't go after it at all. When he did notice it, he seemed more interested in playing with the frosting and wiping it on his feet. However, he did eventually figure it out and went to town. Before leaving for home, we attempted to get a picture of the four great grand kids on the Poe side for Grandma Poe, but it's hard to get four little ones to cooperate.
