The Poe Family Blog: Sadie Monster

Sadly we had to put our beloved little Sadie Monster to sleep in December. Her health had been up and down for the past year. She would have periods where she would stop eating and/or couldn't keep anything down. At those times she would turn to skin and bones. She would then rebound and get back to her normal self. However, her eye sight was deteriorating as well. It used to be that she just had difficulty seeing things in the shadows; however, lately it had gotten to the point that unless the environment was extremely familiar to her she couldn't move around without bumping into things. She would try to get into her cage, miss the opening, and try to squeeze herself between the cage and the wall. She even got lost one day in the back yard. So when her health went down hill again Scott and I made the very difficult decision that we wouldn't prolong her suffering. It hasn't been the same without her.

Sadie had a pretty tough life. My friend Maggie rescued her from one of her client's house. I'll never forget that first day. As soon as we let her out of the travel carrier, she took off like a bolt. Luckily one of the neighbors found her. They didn't want to let us have her back because Sadie was in such poor shape. She had an incredible amount of fleas and her nails were so long that they were causing her pain to walk. However, once we explained that we had just gotten her, they gave her back to us. We gave her a flea bath and settled her into her new home.

We had a lot of good times with Sadie Monster, and I hope that the time she spent with our family was happy for her.
